Regulations Governing Training Requirements

Effective July 25, 2017, charter school governing body training must comply with the regulations posted below.

  • All governing body training must be approved by the Public Education Department.
  • Board members must annually meet training requirements that mandate training in specified areas.
  • New board members must complete specified training prior to voting at a board meeting.

Training Exemption Guidance

Please review the rules and guidance documents below for more information. Training provided during the 2017-2018 school year must meet the requirements of this new regulation.

Governing body member training is appropriate for governing board members, charter school leaders, and charter school business managers. Administrators and other charter school leaders are also welcome to attend. Trainings  fulfill the Organizational Performance Framework training requirement for continuing governing body members pursuant to 6.80.5.9(A)(5) NMAC.

New Member Introductory Training Waiver Requests

If extraordinary circumstances exist and a new governing body member is unable to attend the in-person course provided by the department within two months of being voted on to the governing body as a new governing body member, the governing body member may submit a waiver request accompanied by an explanation of the extraordinary circumstances. PED will process the waiver request within 14 days of receipt.
