Andrea Thomas is a proud member of the Navajo Tribe. She spent her early childhood in Shiprock, and attended Mesa Elementary, where she now teaches 3rd and 4th grade as a looping teacher. After relocating to Chandler, AZ, where she completed middle and high school, she returned to New Mexico to pursue her B.A. in Elementary Education at the University of New Mexico. This will be her fifth year teaching in the elementary setting. Since beginning her teaching career, she has served as a grade level leader and mentor to new teachers, and is also a member of the school leadership team. In addition to coaching cross country, she also enjoys spending time with her students in after-school enrichment programs. Ms. Thomas Considers it to be a great honor and privilege to serve her native Navajo Community. She looks forward to being an advocate for Native American Education as a member of the Secretary’s Teacher Advisory.
