Pathway

  • Prior to July 1, 2012, licensed teachers may add a gifted endorsement to an existing NM teaching license of any level by:
    • Verification of 5 years of experience in teaching gifted children; or
    • Successfully pass a state approved licensure examination in the teaching of gifted students; or
    • Successfully complete 12 semester hours of gifted teaching methodology/pedagogy coursework at a regionally accredited college or university.

 

  • After June 30, 2012, beginning teachers seeking to add a gifted endorsement to an initial level 1 license must have 24 semester hours of gifted teaching methodology/pedagogy coursework at a regionally accredited college or university.

 

  • After June 30, 2012, licensed teachers may add a gifted endorsement to an existing NM teaching license of any level by:
    • Successfully complete 12 semester hours of gifted teaching methodology/pedagogy coursework at a regionally accredited college or university; and
    • Successfully pass a state approved licensure examination in the teaching of gifted students.
