Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization that hosts a web-based instructional platform that provides lessons in 28 subject areas. This number of robust and diverse offerings on a multimedia, online platform, makes using Khan Academy a stimulating, if not fun, learning experience for students of all ages. Best of all, it is free to New Mexico students!

In 2015, Khan Academy partnered with College Board to offer SAT resources to high school students. The College Board’s goal, in preparation for the release of their New SAT, was to make SAT resources more affordable and to encourage more students to enter college.

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) pays for all New Mexico public school, 10th grade students to take the preliminary SAT assessment (PSAT) in the fall semester. While participation in the PSAT has been and remains voluntary, student PSAT scores can now be linked to Khan Academy to provide numerous benefits to students and schools and drive student interest and achievement in academics. .

The PSAT is a component of the SAT Suite of Assessments. The redesigned SAT Suite uses a common score scale, providing consistent feedback across assessments to help educators and students monitor growth across grades and to identify areas in need of improvement. This new level of feedback can help both students and educators engage in the best possible practice for future assessments: strong classroom work and instruction. .

After a student takes the PSAT exam, their College Board account can be linked to their Khan Academy account. By doing so, they will gain access to a variety of powerful resources, including free, personalized, online SAT practice; scholarship opportunities; and college planning resources. All for free.

The PED strongly encourages schools, parents and their students to take advantage of this free resource. In doing so, families can expect to improve their student’s academic achievement which translates into stronger literacy and numeracy, better workplace opportunities and greater earnings. .
