Student Leader SpotlightDescribe your school community:A rural school setting where the school is the center of the community. Where students are often taught by the same teaching staff as their parents before them. Kids grow up with one another and become family for good. What motivates you to be a Student Leader:To represent my peers and give them a voice for their own education and activities. Since I believe in this so strongly, I am currently a liaison for the school board. Describe your favorite part of the Student Leader Network:I appreciate being part of the first cohort of student leaders in New Mexico and enjoyed being able to meet with students from all over New Mexico and share ideas as peers and future leaders amongst our communities. | Shane Barnwell“It’s not whether you get knocked down. It’s whether you get up.” Vince Lombardi |

Vision
The Student Leadership Network (SLN) is a component of the PED’s efforts to better inform policy decisions by engaging student voices in the policy-making process. The SLN has been established to ensure equity throughout educational policy-making decisions by elevating the voice of informed and engaged students throughout our state.
The SLN serves as a bridge between students and policymakers by:
