Biliteracy Training Opportunity Dual Language Education of New Mexico is partnering with the PED to offer a comprehensive professional learning opportunity to elementary school educators responsible for Spanish/English biliteracy instruction. Literacy Squared® will be offered in separate grade-level sessions: June 8-9 (12-4 p.m.) for teachers and instructional staff for grades 3-6 June 10-11 (12-4 p.m.) for teachers and instructional staff for grades K-2 Literacy Squared® is a comprehensive biliteracy model designed to accelerate the development of biliteracy in Spanish-English speaking children in the U.S. Each training is free. Space is limited to the first 45 registered participants. More information and a registration link are available here. PEC Special Meeting The Public Education Commission (PEC) will hold a special meeting on April 29 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss and possibly vote on the draft of the Memorandum of Understanding between the PEC and the PED. The meeting will utilize a Zoom webinar format. Zoom link and phone numbers are located on the PEC agenda and on the website below for members of the public to access the meeting. The meeting agenda is available here. Graduation Guidance Districts and charter schools that reserve a graduation venue and date two weeks prior to graduation may proceed with those plans even if a high school is in remote learning due to four rapid responses at the time of graduation. However, PED encourages these districts and charter schools to do outside graduation, grab-and-go diplomas and increase testing prior to the graduation ceremony. Educator Vaccines Can an employer ask if staff have received a COVID-19 vaccine? The answer is yes, but read on for tips to be sure you don’t run afoul of employment and disability laws.
