NMPED COVID-19 update: Confirming new positive cases across New Mexico’s public schools

As of 9/17, one student, six staff tested positive

SANTA FE – The Public Education Department on September 17 announced seven new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 24-hours, after implementing a rapid response and verifying all pertinent information with the schools and school districts. The following new cases were reported:

One case at a public school in McKinley County. The infected individual is a teacher. The infected individual was last in the school building on September 15, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

Five cases at a public school in Roosevelt County. The infected individuals are staff members, including two teachers. The infected individuals were last in the school building or a district office on September 9, 11, and 14, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected buildings have been notified of the positive cases.

One case at a public school in Bernalillo County. The infected individual is a student. The infected individual was last in the office building on September 9, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

The affected classrooms and school facilities will be thoroughly disinfected, and any staff or students who came into close contact with a newly diagnosed individual will be quarantined for 14 days. “Close contact” means being within six feet for three minutes or more. Staff who were close contacts must get tested for COVID-19 and provide the school with test results prior to returning to in-person duties.

The PED has collected data since August 17, 2020; moving forward, cumulative totals will include those data, and the total number of cases in school populations is currently at 118.

NMPED COVID-19 update: Confirming new positive cases across New Mexico’s public schools

As of 9/16, one student, two staff tested positive

SANTA FE – The Public Education Department on September 16 announced three new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 24-hours, after implementing a rapid response and verifying all pertinent information with the schools and school districts. The following new cases were reported:

One case at a public school in Bernalillo County. The infected individual is a teacher. The infected individual was last in the school building on August 25, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One case at a public school in McKinley County. The infected individual is a student. The infected individual was last in the school building on September 9, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One case at a public school district office in Roosevelt County. The infected individual is a secretary. The infected individual was last in the office building on September 9, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students who visited the affected building have been notified of the positive case.

The affected classrooms and school facilities will be thoroughly disinfected, and any staff or students who came into close contact with a newly diagnosed individual will be quarantined for 14 days. “Close contact” means being within six feet for three minutes or more. Staff who were close contacts must get tested for COVID-19 and provide the school with test results prior to returning to in-person duties.

NMPED COVID-19 update: Confirming new positive cases across New Mexico’s public schools

As of 9/14, two staff and three students from five schools have tested positive

SANTA FE – Beginning Tuesday, September 15, 2020, the Public Education Department will publish daily case updates regarding the number of positive school-related COVID-19 cases in New Mexico. New cases will be reported as of today (for the prior 24-hour period), marking one week from the start of hybrid learning in some districts.

The Public Education Department on September 15 announced five new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 24hrs, after implementing a rapid response and verifying all pertinent information with the schools and school districts. The following new cases were confirmed:

One case at a public school in Chaves County. The infected individual is a student. The infected student was last in the school building on Friday, September 11, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One case at a public school in Bernalillo County. The infected individual is a staff member. The infected individual was last in the school building on August 28, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One case at a public school in Colfax County. The infected individual is a student. The infected student was last in the school building on September 14, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One case at a public school in Santa Fe County. The infected staff member was last in the school building on September 4, 2020. All staff members and the parents and guardians of all students in the affected school have been notified of the positive case.

One additional case at a public school in Santa Fe County. The individual was not on campus when they contracted COVID-19 and no one in the school environment was potentially exposed.

The affected classrooms and school facilities will be thoroughly disinfected, and any staff or students who came into close contact with a newly diagnosed individual will be quarantined for 14 days. “Close contact” means being within six feet for three minutes or more. Staff who were close contacts must get tested for COVID-19 and provide the school with test results prior to returning to in-person duties.
