The New Mexico Teacher Leader Network (NMTLN) is a group of teacher leaders who are alumni and current members of the teacher leadership programs for the New Mexico Public Education Department. The leadership programs include the Secretary’s Teacher Advisory, the Teacher Ambassadors program, Teacher of the Year, and the School Liaisons program.

The purpose of the NMTLN is to develop a set of teacher leaders who:

  • Gain knowledge about NMPED areas of focus to support student outcomes
  • Serve as their school’s liaison when other teachers have questions about NMPED areas of focus
  • Provide feedback about NMPED areas of focus
  • Develop skills to support colleagues’ growth and development
  • Gain access to NMPED resources and tools
  • Uplift and celebrate the profession


The Teacher Leader Network Applications are opening on May 1st. 

The application window for the NMPED Teacher Leader Network’s School Liaison and the NMPED Teacher Leader Network and Advisory committee will be open from May 1-June 12, 2024.

The School Liaison’s are Level I and II teachers who will learn about NMPED Policy and serve as a conduit of information between the NMPED and their school site.

The NMPED Teacher Leader Network and Advisory committee is a group of regional diverse Level II and III teachers who will engage in professional development opportunities, engage in problems of practice, and serve as a conduit of information between the NMPED and their community. New Mexico Teacher of the Year

The New Mexico Teacher of the Year (NMTOY) Program works in partnership with the National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) Program managed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). It is the most prestigious teacher recognition program in the country and includes a new cohort each year.

The NMTOY is chosen from one of the state’s school districts and charter schools, which are all eligible to submit a teacher candidate for this honor. The NMTOY promotes excellence in teaching, is a source of inspiration to other teachers to strive for improving the quality of classroom education, therein providing tools necessary for students to succeed.

The NMPED in partnership with the NMOGA recently announced the call for 2024 Teacher of The Year nominations. The application period has closed. The NMPED received several highly competitive applications from exceptional educators ranging from early childhood to high school teachers from throughout the state. The next Teacher of the Year will be announced soon.
