Accelerated learning allows students to achieve their educational goals with programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit (DC) and Early College High Schools (ECHS). AP and Dual Credit coursework gives students the opportunity to explore college-level curriculum, and possibly earn credit. These types of courses are taken simultaneously with regular high school level classes, and are open to all students. While many schools and districts offer these programs, Early College High Schools utilize accelerated learning approaches, but undergo a rigorous designation process with the NMPED.
ECHS use a transformative support model of bringing college into high school by simultaneously offering students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and a college-level credential and/or degree. These schools are especially designed to support low-income youth, first-generation college-goers, English Language Learners, ethnically diverse students, and other young people typically underrepresented in higher education.
