Vision

New Mexico Public Education Department’s vision for Education Preparation Programs (EPPs) is grounded in a dedication to support New Mexico approved EPPs to develop new teachers who understand how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning. The state has the responsibility to oversee and set the standards for educator preparation, foster innovation, provide support/training, and hold programs accountable. By improving the depth and quality of preparation for our new teachers, NMPED will improve retention rates for school districts, and improve student outcomes particularly for our most underserved populations. This bureau promotes and supports efforts to recruit and retain teachers in New Mexico. Specifically, the bureau will oversee or support the New Mexico talent initiatives: Grow Your Own Programs and Teacher Residency. These programs support new teachers through mentoring and provide financial support.
