Since the inception of Canvas this past summer, 100 LEAs have signed up to use Canvas. However, some LEAs were unable to dedicate the time to fully get implemented for Fall 2020 or this school year. As such, we are highly encouraging LEAs who were either unable to start or finish implementation and/or other LEAs who may want to sign up for Canvas for the next school year to go ahead and start the process to avoid a repeat situation where there is not enough time to get the technical setup completed. Please note that the Canvas staff is here to help each district/school every step of the way to ensure a successful technical implementation and adoption of Canvas. As such, please click on the area below that most closely fits your current situation to determine next steps.

Signed up for canvas – now what?

If you are a school or district in New Mexico that has recently signed up for Canvas, but are not sure of what’s next, please check out this Self-Guided Implementation Overview. Finished Canvas implementation and ready for next steps?

If you have finished the Self-Guided Implementation Course, congratulations! Now, the real fun and excitement get to start! You will receive a dedicated Principal Learning Consultant (PLC) just for your district/school to help deepen and enhance your use of Canvas, convey best practices for using Canvas, and make sure that you are taking advantage of all of the goodies that you are able to receive (like making sure that you get free training, instructional design, and consulting services as needed)! If you have not already been contacted by a PLC, please email nm-canvas@instructure.com to let us know that you are ready to positively impact teaching and learning with Canvas! 🙂

You are a new Canvas user

Welcome to the #NMCanvasFam! We are happy to have you join the ever-growing Canvas Community, both in New Mexico and globally! As a new Canvas user, your first step is to learn how to use Canvas. Make sure that you complete any/all Training & PD possible to meet your needs and make you (and your students) successful!

Here is a helpful Quick Start Guide outlining your first steps.

Keep in mind when creating a welcome classroom environment, you can use a pre-existing, Ready-Made Template provided by your school/district or as part of New Mexico’s Template Suite OR create your own look and feel by using other digital tools such as Google Slides, Canva, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud. (Warning: Watch out for rabbit holes and remember that content and instruction are always the most important!)

Transfer/use your own, create, and/or find/use high quality instructional content & assessments.

Use the Course Evaluation Checklist to ensure that you have everything as it should be and ready to go!

Make sure to download the Canvas Teacher Mobile App in the Apple or Google Play store.

On top of the amazing Canvas training opportunities available, we have also created a special NM Canvas Educator Resource Center just for you! It contains a plethora of Canvas Resources, Canvas Webinar/Workshop Slide Decks and Recordings, Various Canvas Supports, and more!

Whatever your level of knowledge and experience, we have Canvas Training & PD to meet your needs! There are many opportunities for you to deepen and enhance your knowledge and use of Canvas.

Your student’s school is using Canvas

Yay! Welcome to the ever-growing Canvas Community and the #NMCanvasFam! Our focus is on teaching and learning. We want students to be successful and know and value the role of parents and guardians in that effort! As such, we have created a special NM Canvas Parent/Guardian Resource Center just for you! In this course, you’ll get a basic introduction to Canvas, directions on how to create a parent/observer account to “co-enroll” in your student’s course(s), learn how to navigate your student’s Canvas course(s), and learn how to download and use the Canvas Parent Mobile App to keep up with your student’s learning progress!
