Asha is a Spanish-English bilingual borderlands educator with a passion for arts-based learning and a strong faith in the praxis and practice of Asset-Based Community Development. She holds an MA from UNM in Art Education with TESOL certification, and completed her BA in Anthropology at Penn State University. A lifelong learner, she has also studied at the Universidad Iberoamericana in México, and has a great love for Mesoamerican archeology. Since then, she has worked as a community organizer, community educator, community advocate, and pro bono legal program coordinator. She spent years crossing the US-México border for work while living in Ciudad Juárez, and has worked in México, Guatemala, and Spain. Over the years, Asha has been honored to be able to work as a community educator at La Mesa Elementary as part of the innovative TECLA Teacher Education Collaborative program, as a Community Schools Coordinator in Sierra County, and as a Family Engagement Liaison for Gadsden Independent School District.
