CTE Corner: May 2023 Newsletter

In this May 2023 edition of the CTE Corner newsletter:

  • CTE Champions – ACE Leadership School – ACE Leadership students accompanied by AGC New Mexico CEO Kelly Roepke, College & Career Readiness staff and led by Aaron Stricker of Bradbury Stamm Construction explore the new ABQ BioPark Zoo’s Asia Expansion Construction site as we explore the on-going value of Pre-Apprenticeships. Check out the story on page 1-2.
  • Upcoming in-person professional learning opportunities – Hosted by MC2, math teachers will improve their math teaching skills while using Pathway2Careers. Participants can earn up to $180 for attending the entire PD day. Learn more on page 3.
  • Four Corners Computer Science Convening – NMPED is currently working in conjunction with the states of Arizona, Utah, and Colorado to host a Four Corners Computer Science Convening on July 9-11th, 2023, at Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO. Find out more on Page 3.
  • Advanced Placement Summer Institutes – NMPED, in coordination with College Board and Region 9 Education Cooperative, is excited to announce 17 summer professional learning options offered at no cost to all New Mexico educators. See Page 4.
  • Does CTE help improve classroom attendance? – Explore this possibility on Page 5.

CTE Corner: March 2023 Newsletter

  • See what Deming Public Schools is doing as our latest CTE Champion! NMPED-CCRB recently had a sit down with DPSD and a tour of Deming High School. Page 2.
  • Pathway2Careers is a free, standards aligned, HQIM resource for use by high school math and CTE teachers. Interested in learning more? Several upcoming opportunities are available. Page 3.
  • In fall 2023, College Board is launching a new AP Precalculus course. AP Precalculus was created to prepare a wide range of students to succeed in math they will encounter in college and STEM careers. If you are interested in adding this course to your 2023-2024 course offerings. See page 3.

CTE Corner: December 2022 Newsletter

The December edition of CTE Corner encourages the reader to enroll in the upcoming CTE workshop and share with those who can benefit from attending either in-person or virtually.

In this holiday edition of the CTE Corner newsletter:

  • SAVE the Date! Our CTE Funding Application Workshop January 11-12, 2023, is coming up FAST and we have details and registration information on pages 1-2
  • Pathway2Careers Math Curriculum has added 18 new projects developed using principles of problem-based learning to provide a career immersion experience as students tackle real-world scenarios within IT Careers. Download a sample on page 3
  • Join NMPED and College Board on Jan. 18 for the virtual AP Winter Workshops to support professional learning for all New Mexico Advanced Placement educators. Full-day subject workshops will focus on the CED, course planning, AP classroom, equity, and instructional strategies for specific courses. Register on page 3
  • Congratulate Twin Buttes Cyber Academy students who participated in the New Mexico Governor’s STEM Challenge Showcase and won the grand prize. See page 4

CTE Corner: October 2022 Newsletter

The October edition of CTE Corner hopes to inspire through success stories and awards celebrations while providing practical tools and links for future CTE growth and program adoption.

In this edition:

  • CTE Champions: Michael Ogas and the School of Dreamy Academy are fulfilling a dream envisioned many years ago to meet the needs of students and provide the opportunity to realize their dreams.
  • NMACTE is spotlighted in this edition as the New Mexico Association for Career and Technical Education recognized state educators, administrators, and business leaders for 2022 (See Page 3 for details).
  • CTSOs are featured as we remind readers of the breadth of offering that Career Technical Student Organizations can provide and an invitation to upcoming Fall Leadership Rallies (See Page 6 for details).
  • A new feature beginning this edition is the Counselor’s Corner. This section will be spearheaded by one of the CCRB’s newer team members, Angelica Delgadillo, MA. As the title indicates, this section will provide a counselor’s vantage point to the CTE Corner (See Page 7 for details).

CTE Corner: August 2022 Newsletter

This back-to-school edition celebrates the new school year and CTE opportunities and programs. This month we will be looking at some exciting beginning-of-year stories and events:

  • CTE Champions: See how Milo McMinn and the Aztec Municipal School District is aligning courses and programs of study with Career Clusters and personal passion to elevate his district’s approach to Career Technical Education.
  • You may qualify for the New Mexico 7-12 Computer Science (CS) endorsement. Multiple qualifying pathways are in place for teachers holding a secondary teaching license. See Page 2 for details
  • TIME SENSITIVE – The Public Education Department’s College and Career Readiness Bureau is seeking participants for a year-long pilot study to determine the effectiveness of the Pathway2Careers content. See Page 3 for details.
  • Class of 2023 students are now eligible to win $500 and $40,000 scholarships they can use at two- or four-year institutions just by planning for college.
