New Mexico Public Education Department, Office of Special Education is pleased to announce that the application for the Hard-to-Staff Pay Differential Phase I is now open as of today, August 15, 2024. This opportunity is designed to offer pay differentials to incentivize and retain certified special education professionals in positions that have remained vacant or have experienced high turnover.

  • Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted by September 30, 2024.
  • Submission Method: Applications must be completed and submitted via the Hard to Staff online application.
    • Please ensure all required fields are filled out accurately before submission.

Phase II: Retention Stipends

The NMPED Office of Special Education is pleased to announce that the Phase II application for the Hard to Staff Pay Differentials is being released today October 15, 2024. This application is specifically for retention stipends. The retention stipend is aimed at supporting all certified special education teachers, who are currently teaching in a special education classroom, and who have been in their positions prior to the beginning of this school year.

Please note: All LEAs should have applied for Phase I recruitment differential stipends released September 15, 2024, for all newly hired certified special education teachers holding special education positions.

The retention stipend will amount to $5,000 and is scheduled to be paid out in May 2025.
