Summer Literacy Program Participants – Background Information

The Professional Licensure Bureau (PLB) provides services to educators to assist them in obtaining and maintaining their New Mexico (NM) Educator Certification. Educators are certified in many areas, including early childhood, elementary, secondary, special education, administration, ancillary and support providers, and approved endorsements. The unit also assists out-of-state/out-of-country educators in obtaining NM Certification and supports LEA’s (local education agency) Human Resource departments throughout the state to meet the needs of their educators.  This site provides general licensing information, procedures, and license records.

Our Mission

At the heart of our work, the PLB is dedicated to advancing equity and excellence for all students. We do this by serving as a resource for school leaders, educators, and staff, fostering collaboration with communities, and leading with data-driven best practices.

Results

The PLB processes over 25,000 different licenses annually, with a typical processing time of 6 to 10 weeks and as long as six weeks during the peak season (contingent upon a cleared background and all documents for licensure are provided). The unit is comprised of 5 licensing specialists and 2 background specialists serving NM.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and Contact Info

We consistently update our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to meet the needs of applicants and already licensed educators. The PLB team is available by phone, email, or in-person.
