Beginning Teacher Pathway
Beginning teachers adding the endorsement to an initial license must satisfy the requirements for the license which include:
- 24-36 semester hours in family & consumer science and pass the Content Knowledge Assessment (CKA) in Family & Consumer Science. (see assessment and course information below)
Teacher with Existing License Pathway
Teachers seeking to add the endorsement to an existing NM teaching license of any level can either:
Submit a passing score of 220 of the CKA in Family & Consumer Science; predecessor or comparable exam; or
Earn 24-36 semester hours of credit in family & consumer science (12 of the hours must be upper division credit if adding the endorsement to a secondary or pre k-12 specialty license); or
- Be certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in family and consumer science
ASSESSMENT
- Passage of the following New Mexico Teacher Assessments (NMTA) exams:
- Family and Consumer Sciences
(or) beginning January 1, 2020
- Passage of the following PRAXIS exam:
- Family and Consumer Sciences
